This is my entry for art.benjaminpaulus' 8k art challenge on instagram. The goal was to reinterpret Benjamin's given design and turn it around - literally.

Stylized 2D/3D Illustration with Sound
I wanted to create a fake depth/parallax effect in Blender in the style of a trading card. When I saw Benjamin's design, especially the hands that held a lot of depth, I knew I had to do it. It was important to keep the scope small to create a rounded, polished project.
The card features an illustration split into multiple layers, the 3D mesh, custom shaders to adjust metallic and roughness as well as change color over time, masks and audio design as well as the cinematic camera movement and animation.
I first created a rough sketch in Procreate.
In Blender I then created the front, the back and the actual frame of the card as planes and added the textures.
I mapped out the coordinates and depth of all the layers and mixed them in the shader editor in Blender.
I roughly tested the effect and adjusted the parameters.
Then, I split the layers in Procreate, used color maps and in Blender blended between the different versions
For the trading card look I also added a border and grid which both are looking kind of used and older.
I created a few camera dolly setups and planned out each animation track.
Piece by piece the card was coming together.
I also added some text and adjusted the material properties for extra shine.
Finally I animated the camera dollies and card itself. In Davinci Resolve I also added SFX as well as some background music and ambience to really give it the last touch.
